ELLA HIPOLITOCoffee Painter
Oftentimes, coffee serves as a simple, if utilitarian purpose: waking someone up. It’s a much-needed pick-me-up to get up and get through the day. It is not so often used as an artistic medium of expression, as one Ella Hipolito boldly does. To understand her unusual artistic fusion, one must look at the very beginning. Ella’s artistic journey started in her hometown of San Mateo, Rizal. Here, nature was her backyard and dogs her steadfast companions. She then went on to study and finish Fine Arts from the College of the Holy Spirit in Mendiola, Manila. She continued to cultivate her creative talents over the years, branching out to diverse fields and interests. Ella’s resumé now boasts an eclectic range: Creative Concepts, Art Direction, Video Editing, Graphic Designs, Visual Arts and Manual Crafts. Coffee Art is highly conceptual and breathing life into the process is almost experimental in nature. Ella takes great care in choosing and crafting elements and pieces, how they will react and blend with each other. Indeed, brewing her creations takes a certain skill and full understanding of coffee. The result is a nuanced, textured and provocative masterpiece of coffee’s journey to art. In the hands of a creative genius like Ella, coffee has overcome its simple utility and has been elevated to art that stimulates and inspires. Now that Ella has virtually acquired thorough knowledge of coffee art, she then takes pride in looking back to what she initially learned & practiced – painting with the use of traditional media. Watercolor & acrylic are two of her favorites.
Ella’s imaginative use of coffee as an art medium did not go unnoticed. Her coffee artworks were featured in cafés major broadsheets, glossy magazines, blogs, social media networking sites and TV guestings & live interviews.
- “COFFEE CREATIVITY: The Many Colors and Textures of Coffee” on 2012 was Ella’s first one-woman Art Exhibition. It was a bold step for Ella to hold a solo show after merely a year of actively participating in group art shows. With family & friends’ support, Ella managed to pull it through successfully.
- The following year of 2013, Ella’s 2nd solo show “COFFEE CREATIVITY: By Request” came about. Collectors & friends from the art & coffee industry graced the event and made the 2nd Art Exhibition a hit. 2014 & 2015 were mostly a hibernating period from the art scene as Ella was juggling a day job, occasional painting & co-managing a small food joint business.
- 2016 was a remarkable breakthrough in Ella’s art career. Apart from her 3rd solo art exhibition entitled “COFFEE CREATIVITY”, numerous coffee art demonstrations, mall shows & commissioned works filled up the 2nd half of the year’s calendar.
- One of Ella’s goal to perform a solo art exhibition featuring her colored paintings (along with her coffee art pieces) happened on the 1st month of 2018 at the heart of BGC business district in Taguig. “COFFEE CREATIVITY & Beyond” took place on the Penthouse floor of Marajo Tower in 26th St. It was indeed a remarkable event as Ella dedicated & shared the proceeds with the children of Cancer Warriors Foundation & she wishes to continue supporting children battling the condition in her succeeding projects.
