Ignition and DOST Launch Innovation Law Workshop
Things just got futuristic! IGNITION Venture Studio, in partnership with Department of Science and Technology, launched their workshop series last August 23, 2018 in IGNITION Venture Studio at Bonifacio Global City. With notable speakers like Atty. Juan Paolo Villonco, Palash Gupta J.D., Atty. Jolon Pabiton, Atty. Cecille Soria, and Deputy Privacy Commissioner Dino Aguirre, this workshop just got a whole lot interesting knowing that participants of this event were technology start-ups, members of technology business incubators and Filipino scientists interested in entrepreneurship.
Interestingly enough, the same workshop also happened in Cebu City last September 24 and 25, 2018 with Innovation Law Attorney Paolo Villonco, Labor Law Attorney Jose Marlon Pabiton, Venture Capital Attorney Palash Gupta, GDPR Attorney Cecilia Soria, and Data Privacy Law Complaints & Investigations Division Chief – Attorney Francis Euston R. Acero.

An informational discussion in the workshop was about Innovation Law and Data Privacy. With that, they talked about the theoretical reality that was responsible for 65% of start-up failures called Co-Founder Conflict. Also, Palash Gupta J.D gave significant provisions of investor agreements and gave useful tips to start-ups on what VC’s were looking for in founders, terms and conditions founders should take note of, and the why & negotiation tactics.

In all companies, they need to know the basic labor laws; Atty. Jolon Pabiton, a veteran labor and litigation practitioner, lectured on Labor Law basics and talent recruitment. Since they were all start-up companies, Atty. Cecille Soria, one of the few Filipino experts on Data Privacy law explained General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and why it is relevant to build global or regional start-up companies. Lastly, Deputy Privacy Commissioner Dino Aguirre lectured on the basics of Data Privacy policy in the Philippines. He addressed the concerns of the Filipino startup community when it comes on how to improve Data Privacy and compliance.
After all those insightful information regarding Data Privacy, these technology start-ups know what to do when it comes to protecting private information of an individual. In order for the Philippine society to progress, we must know how to comply in these simple rules and make sure that we don’t invade someone else’s privacy.
